FROM COACH BRYAN DORSEY:
Dear Zone Qualifier parents:
As was the case with Junior Olympics, we will again have to provide timers at Zone Qualifiers this upcoming weekend. I am asking that any parent available, please send me an email and I will come up with a schedule. The more volunteers we have, the less time any one parent will have to time at each session. If possible, I will try to make sure that you are not timing when your son or daughter is swimming in an event.
Below, you will find Zone Qualifier information as well as our timing assignments. Please email me by Thursday night so that I can come up with a schedule. BDorsey@gaelac.com
Meet info can be found at this link: http://www.metroswimming.org/Results/2005/ZoneQ/ZoneQ.pdf. Our entry follows at the end of this e-mail..
Thanks,
Bryan Dorsey
2005 Metropolitan Zone Team Qualifier Rules and Timing Assignment
Eligibility: Only swimmers who WILL attend Zones if they make the team can compete at the Zones Qualifier Meet.
All
swimmers must swim in the age group they will be as of the first day of
Zones (March
31, 2005) as long as
they
meet the qualifying times for that age group.
All
swimmers must be registered with USS and Metropolitan Swimming for 2005. A
swimmer may enter
any
number of individual events for which he/she has met the qualifying time,
but may not compete in more than
three
(3) individual events per any one-day. A swimmer who is not scratched and
competes in more than 3 events in
a
day will automatically be DQ’d from any event(s) beyond the first 3 events
that the swimmer competes in
(scratches
behind the blocks count as an entry). 10&under swimmers may swim up to 5
events per day.
Any
swimmer (13 & over) who earns a Speedo Champions Series Sectional
Qualifying time prior to
the
Eastern Zone meet is ineligible to compete in that event at Zones.
Therefore, any swimmer (13 & over)
achieving
a Sectional qualifying time at the Metro Zone Qualifier may not compete in
that event at Zones.
Furthermore,
any swimmer earning a Sectional qualifying time during preliminaries at the
Metro Zone
Qualifier
meet may not compete in finals in that event.
Qualifying Period: March 22, 2004 through entry deadline for Zone Team Qualifier meet.
|
Metropolitan Swimming will impose a $50.00 fine on any swimmer failing to equal or better the cut-off time if the entry time cannot be proven within 30 days following the conclusion of the meet. This includes DQ’s, No Shows, and scratches made after the meet is seeded. |
Scratches:
1) This meet will be deck seeded. Scratches will be due thirty (30) minutes before each published session start time.
2) Metropolitan Scratch Procedures will be followed. Please consult your GUIDELINES.
3) There will be a $25.00 per event fine for any swimmer that does not scratch the last day’s final and fails to show.
4) Coaches must make sure that their swimmers understand that once they are scratched, they will not be re-entered in the meet. Coaches should inform their swimmers to leave plenty of time for traffic etc.
5) The coach of a swimmer that was seeded in an event, and is a No-Show (NS) in the event, must positively check the swimmer for the next days’ events in order for that swimmer to be eligible to compete in the rest of the meet.
6) Athletes who miss a race in which they were seeded and did not properly deck scratched will be barred from their next individual event of the day. If they miss their last event of the day they will be barred from their first event of the next day.
7) In all prelim-final events, after the prelims have been seeded, any swimmer who fails to compete in an individual event heat in which he/she is entered and from which he/she has not been scratched will be barred from all further individual and relay events of that day. Additionally, that swimmer shall not be seeded in any individual events on succeeding days unless that swimmer declares his/her intent to swim prior to the close of scratches for that day’s events.
8) A swimmer qualifying for any finals swim based upon the results of the prelims must notify the Clerk of Course within 30 minutes after announcement of the qualifiers for that event that he/she may not intend to compete, and further must declare his/her final intention within 30 minutes following his/her last preliminary event. If a swimmer fails to follow this procedure, he/she will be barred from further competition for the remainder of the meet, except as noted in Rule 207.5.9 E1 and E3.
9) It is the responsibility of the Swimmer and the Coach to make sure that the swimmer has not moved up into the top 8 prior to their departure from prelims.
TIME TRIALS: Time trials for swimmers entered in the meet ($5 per swim) will be held after prelims, as time permits. Swimmers are allowed a maximum of two (2) time trials over the course of the weekend.
Time trials are counted toward the three individual events allowed per swimmer per day.
|
** Zone Chaperons are required from all teams with 4 or more swimmers 11-over qualifying for Zones. Chaperon applications will be available at Zone Qualifier Meet. ** Parents of 10-under qualifiers will need to contact Mary Fleckenstein at the meet to reserve a room. Swimmers 10-under do not travel or eat with the team. ** Zone team members must sign up for Zones at the Zone Qualifier meet – No exceptions – Money ($250 for 11-over; $100 for 10-under) and equipment orders are due at that time. Hobie Swim will be on hand to collect the equipment orders. |
TIMING & MEET MARSHAL ASSIGNMENT
Zone Team Qualifier Meet
ADULT TIMERS WITH WATCHES will be expected from each club and will be assigned based on a percentage of entries at each session. A team assigned a lane must provide timers on that lane for the entire session! Timers are asked to be on deck 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the session. Volunteer timers are welcome.
PLEASE COOPERATE. Any timer that has not reported, from a club assigned to time, will result in the disqualification of that club’s swimmers until that timer reports. .
Meet Marshals (Metro Officials):
Meet marshals (2 officials) must be on deck 5 minutes before the start of scheduled warm-up. Identifying attire will be supplied.
Marshals must enforce warm-up procedures and maintain order in the swimming venue.
Timers: Teams that are not assigned a lane to time must be “on call” if needed This applies especially to the finals’ session of each day
