Greetings!
As most of you know, an approximately two-year long, large construction project (the building of the LaPenta Student Union and Hynes Athletic Center) has begun in the center of campus.
This project will significantly expand starting on Monday, May 17 and will require notable changes in traffic patterns and regulations that will effect your daily arrival and departure on campus and specifically to Aquatic Club activities.
You will continue to be able to enter campus from North Avenue; however, as you drive back to the Mulcahy Center Pool, the roadway will be divided into two-way traffic (single lanes in each direction). This will be clearly marked. At no time will there be any parking, standing, pickup or drop-off permitted along this two-lane area.
Aquatic Club drop-off must occur quickly at the area immediately past the upper most glass doors of the building - closest to the parking structure - by the “ticket booth” area of Mulcahy Gym,
Pickup and the inevitable “standing and waiting” will not be permitted on any campus roadway. Ticketing, Booting and Towing will be strictly enforced! For pickup you must find a lined space or preferably park in the Garage structure and meet your swimmers.
A suggested pickup alternative is to explore meeting swimmers outside the single “back door” of the pool on President Street. To get to President Street from North Avenue you turn onto Hubert Place and follow the road back ¼ mile as it turns (bear left) into President Street.
At our swim times, there is usually some parking available and pickup should be easier on President St. However, this is a public roadway and subject to NRPD regulations. This area is well lighted we would ask that you use judgment in deterring the appropriate age for swimmers to use this exit unescorted.
This doorway is exit only and cannot be used for re-entry or entrance right of way.
We expect to see some fine tuning of these policies as this project progresses and will update you as needed via e-mail and on our web site at www.gaelac.com.
