Gale Aquatic Club of Iona College

As you know there is significant construction ongoing around campus. During the planning and execution of these projects, the goal has always been to minimize student and community interruptions and ensure safety.

This construction will markedly increase in the next week and continue for the next 12-24 months as the as steel pilings and concrete footings are installed outside of the lower double doors of the Mulcahy Campus Center for the addition of the Hynes Athletic Center that will connect to MCC.

● The only Entrance to the Mulcahy Center will be from the upper level glass doors.

● The lower double doors outside of the pool to the street (by the Starbucks, which closes today for good) will become emergency exit only. The exterior will be fenced leading to the steps to top of Mulcahy. There will be no entrance on the lower level.

● Drop off and immediate pickup will be permitted; however, standing cannot occur under any circumstances along the road way in front of Mulcahy.

● You are strongly encouraged to use the Parking Garage or park on President Street and escort your swimmers to and from the building.

Finally, I was very disturbed to hear this morning of repeated violations and disregard of previous parking directives and rudeness to College security personnel by Aquatic Club families on pickup and drop off.

I recognize these patterns are significantly different that what has existed in the past. However, recognize these previous methods of drop off and pickup will not exist when the new buildings and road ways are complete. Complete and full compliance of these policies must occur or they endanger swimmer safety and risk the continued uninterrupted operation of our program.
